ABOUT THE BOOK STORE

From five, large book sales and a few small book fairs held at the Hooper House during 1989 and 1990, the Friends used bookstore has grown into its current location on West Main Street in Sylva.

Front door of the book store on Main Street. Outside racks are filled with sale items.

The shelves in the store are always filled with books – including large print books, magazines, music and books on CDs and tape, and records that have been generously donated. Individuals may donate one book or an entire collection! We take pleasure in knowing our prices make books affordable. The proceeds from the store support both the existing library and the new Library Complex.

Avid reader Mary Anne Roos finds some great bargains at the Bookstore.

We are currently open 7 days a week and are completely staffed by volunteers. Anyone who is 16 years old or older can volunteer at the store by becoming a Friend of the Library. You can make a regular commitment to assist customers and make sales or by donating a few hours from time to time. There are numerous ways to help.

• Sort, price, and shelve books and other media

• Organize and straighten books and magazines

• Research rare or special books on the Internet

• Transport trash to the Recycling Center

• Help create window and in-store displays

Whatever your talent, we would welcome you as a volunteer. Join the Friends today. The Friends is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization; all dues and monetary donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.
